Depending on water levels and weather conditions we can offers trips on the South Fork of Licking River, Middle Fork, and the main branch of Licking River throughout Pendleton County. We measure safe boating water levels in cubic feet per second or CFS. For a link to water levels throughout Kentucky click HERE.

The Middle Fork and Main Licking are influenced by releases from the dam at Cave Run Lake. This section is open to experienced paddlers between 2000 and 3000 cfs. Intermediate paddlers can float between 1500 and 2000 cfs and it is open to beginners between 200 and 1500 cfs. Some walking is required once this stream drops below 220 cfs.

The South Fork is usually running in the spring through late May or early June. It is open to experienced paddlers between 1300 and 2000 cfs. We open it to intermediate (people who paddle several times a year) between 900 and 1300 cfs. And it is suitable for beginners between 250 and 900 cfs. Paddlers who can read the water, avoid rocks and shallow areas and don’t overload their boats can float without getting out down to 250 cfs.

Paddling the tailwaters of Kincaid Lake State Park is like a miniature Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness or Adirondack Wilderness experience. This lake produces more bass per acre than any other lake in Kentucky. People report seeing deer, beaver, waterfowl, other birds and the fishing is always good. The lake is clearing, the carp are wallowing and the bass are biting.

Remember, Licking River flows north. Pollution problems in Northern Kentucky do not impact our water trails here.
